QUEENS, NY — After seeing Ryan Coogler’s newest film Sinners this past weekend, and experiencing the phonetic offerings of Li Jun Li, Hailee Steinfeld, and Yao, noted Blaccent user Awkwafina was confused as to why she was not offered a role in the film.
”Nigga, what the hell you talmbout?” she told us. “Not even an audition? How y’all gon’ have Asians talking in a Blaccent in a movie and not even reach out? This is literally my lane. I’m Asian. I talk in a Blaccent. And I’m in movies. It should’ve been me and Rich Brian in those roles, instead!”
When reached for comment, Coogler replied that, “casting ‘Fina would have been too obvious,” but he thanks her for, “the inspiration she lent to the characters.”
When reached for response, Awkwafina ignored us, as she was in the middle of rigorously studying the dialect and inflections of Mac Dre. “If you can’t beat ‘em, learn to talk like ‘em,” we heard her mutter out sporadically. We are unsure what exactly she means by this, but we believe its in reference to Coogler’s Oakland, California background, which he shares with Dre.
