LOS ANGELES, CA— This past Tuesday, notable hip-hop star, Tyler, the Creator, received a barrage of backlash for his recorded history of cooning, as well as a lack of remorse or accountability to his Black fans. Seemingly in response, the former Odd Future member posted a picture to his Instagram story of what appears to be his chopped-off foot.
The photo is captioned, “Please forgive me.”
The act has both confused and divided his fanbase. While Black Twitter is highly certain the act is a symbolic homage to the character “Kunta Kinte,” from the 1977 hit series Roots, who, in the show, is forced by White captors to cut half of his right foot off, his White fans have a different impression—as evidenced by the fact that the star is currently number one trending on Twitter with the hashtag: “#TylerNewAlbum!” With one clearly White fan tweeting:
